YOU AND YOUR NUTRITION


A doctor came around to speak with us today. Here are the highlights of the presentation.

Nutrition is the intake of food, considered in relation to the body’s dietary needs. Good nutrition – an adequate, well balanced diet combined with regular physical activity – is a cornerstone of good health. Poor nutrition can lead to reduced immunity, increased susceptibility to disease, impaired physical and mental development, and reduced productivity.

A poor diet can cause health issues like

• Blindness

• Anaemia

• Scurvy

• Cretinism

• Stillbirth

• Cardiovascular diseases

• Kwashiorkor

Macronutrients

• Carbohydrates

• Fibres

• Fat

• Proteins

Micronutrients

• Minerals-Carbon,iodine,hydrogen,magnesium,calcium,chloride,potassium

• Vitamins





MALNUTRITION

Malnutrition refers to insufficient, excessive, or imbalanced consumption of nutrients by an organism. In developed countries, the diseases of malnutrition are most often associated with nutritional imbalances or excessive consumption.
